Just picked him up on 12/18. A very cool pet so far, tons of personality and friendly. These guys are apparently one of the more difficult reptiles to care for, they require a lot of special attention and careful maintenance of their habitat. They will not drink water from a dish so water has to be misted for dripped onto the ficus leaves. So far he is still getting adjusted to his new space and doesn't come down the the lower parts much so I have been feeding him by carefully placing baby crickets on the leaves near him. He'll pick them off the leaf one after another until he's full and then go bask in the uv lamp.

This is my growing collection of corn snakes... 6 so far, all unknown sex. The color morphs in this bunch are the Wild Type (Possibly a Miami phase), Christmas, Caramel, Butterscotch, Sunglow, and Snow. Still hoping to track down a Butter, a Hypo Bloodred, a Blizzard, a Ghost, and one or more Motleys.

This guy has already become my favorite snake. Retics have a reptuation for being, on average, a bit ill-tempered, especially when wild-caught. Not this one, he is truly a lover with a great personality and immediately took to me at the reptile store. His personality is sweet to the point that I feel guilty when I put him back in his cage, he just wants to hang out with me all the time. I've been wanting to get a giant python for some time but did not have the space. Now that I'm moving from my tiny apartment into my own house I'll have room to build the enormous enclosure this snake will require. Besides his awesome temperament he is also a real looker - his patterns are gorgeous and bright and his skin has a rainbow iridescence. I've read comments from people that retics seem to be somewhat more intelligent than other species and it does seem true with this one.

These cages made by Vision are like a 20 gallon aquarium that can be stacked. They do have some limitations and the heating and lighting was a little bit tricky to get right. I installed a set of 5 20W halogen puck lights from home depot, which provide plenty of heat and light during the day. At night the lights switch off and heating pads switch on. The only heat pads that can safely be used on the plastic undersides of these are the cobra heat mats, the 6x9" size works best. I've found that the halogen lights put out so much heat that if they are above and below a space and/or if there is a heating pad on at the same time its possible to get temps into the mid 90s so I've had to monitor and tweak my hot and cool spots. (Edit: For anyone who has or is considering buying these cages, be VERY careful with heat. I lost one of my blood pythons because of overheating with the tiny halogens in there. I now use NO lights in this setup with the exception of one at the very top where I'm keeping a couple of fence

I just picked this one up on 12/26... been wanting a carpet python for some time, they have a very unique curious disposition and have a lot more personality than the ball pythons. Shag is actually a carpet python crossed with a diamond python. (The guy at the pet store speculated most likely coastal carpet rather than jungle carpet.) This cross has the striped back of a carpet python but as they reach the belly patterns of white diamonds work their way up the black stripes. This cross worked out very well as it seems to combine the best of both species in terms of personality as well as patterns. One thing that everyone will tell you about carpets... they are nippy when young but grow out of it to become very personable snakes. One of his siblings at the store bit me but the bite wasn't painful.
